Security Requirements For Automotive Door Locks
An automotive door lock system must ensure safety during normal driving and parking operations, as well as in the event of accidents-such as collisions, rollovers, or falls-while simultaneously providing security against fire, robbery, and theft.
The door lock shall be capable of reliable engagement and feature two distinct positions: a fully latched position and a secondary latched position. It must ensure smooth and unimpeded opening when required, while simultaneously preventing accidental opening. In the secondary latched position, the door lock system shall be capable of withstanding a longitudinal load of 4,440 N; in the fully latched position, it shall be capable of withstanding a longitudinal load of 11,110 N-in neither instance shall the lock disengage.
When the door lock (including its operating mechanism) is subjected to an acceleration of 294.2 m/s² (30g)-applied in the longitudinal, lateral, and/or free-fall directions-it must remain securely in the fully latched position and shall not disengage.
